Summary

God did not create men to be nice boys。 He created us to live a life of passion, freedom and adventure。 To be dangerous men living in a really big story。

God designed men to be powerful。 Simply look at the dreams and desires written in the heart of every boy: to be a hero, a warrior, to love a beauty, to live a life of adventure。

But sometime between boyhood and the struggles of yesterday, most men lose heart。 All those passions, dreams, and desires get buried under deadlines, pressures, and disappointments。 Christianity feels irrelevant to the recovery of their heart。 No wonder most men leads lives of quiet resignation, meanwhile looking for a little “life” on the side。 In this provocative book, Eldredge invites men to wholeheartedness by

recovering their true masculine hearts;
healing the wounds and trauma in their stories; and
delighting in the strength and wildness they were created to offer the world。
In this updated and expanded edition of the timeless, bestselling classic, John Eldredge calls men—and the women who love them—to discover the true secret of a man’s soul and embrace the danger, passion, and freedom God intended for every man。

We enjoyed the emphasis on changes of seasons and life cycles, as well as seeing the mom's pregnancy progress throughout the course of the book。 We enjoyed the emphasis on changes of seasons and life cycles, as well as seeing the mom's pregnancy progress throughout the course of the book。 。。。more

Felicita Sala's illustrations are gorgeous, and the simple rhyming of the story would make a sweet read-aloud。 I was disappointed, though, because the characters in this scenic, colorful, season-centered book are obviously celebrating Thanksgiving in the fall (with turkey on the table) and Christmas (with a decorated tree) in the winter。 These dominant-cultural holidays are already heavily-featured in children's literature -- in particular, uncomplicated representations of Thanksgiving uphold co Felicita Sala's illustrations are gorgeous, and the simple rhyming of the story would make a sweet read-aloud。 I was disappointed, though, because the characters in this scenic, colorful, season-centered book are obviously celebrating Thanksgiving in the fall (with turkey on the table) and Christmas (with a decorated tree) in the winter。 These dominant-cultural holidays are already heavily-featured in children's literature -- in particular, uncomplicated representations of Thanksgiving uphold colonialism and obscure important history。 A book showing the observance of holidays less-represented (or holiday-neutral) would be positive for all children。 。。。more

Such a cute story。 I love the illustrations in this book。 Everything is so light and flowy。 I love having books that include different races and cultures。 It is important to have a diverse selection of books for all students to read and this book is one of my favorites。 Not only does this show diversity but it allows for students to learn their colors。 The words on the pages are organized in a way students can read simply。

Marcia

A gorgeous picture book that follows a family through the seasons。 A celebration of the rhythms of life, of family, and of the colors that decorate our world。

Super beautiful。 I didn’t like that some pages randomly were wordless。 If there were a pattern it wouldn’t frustrate me, but I couldn’t find one so it did。

I was pretty surprised when I heard this one was coming out and they didn't keep Beth Krommes as the illustrator。 I do think this art tells a good story though。 I thought the text was a bit weird - sounded like a poor translation without really complete sentences。 Overall, I like the story that is told, the more concrete story in the illustrations than the abstract story in the text。 I was pretty surprised when I heard this one was coming out and they didn't keep Beth Krommes as the illustrator。 I do think this art tells a good story though。 I thought the text was a bit weird - sounded like a poor translation without really complete sentences。 Overall, I like the story that is told, the more concrete story in the illustrations than the abstract story in the text。 。。。more

No idea how @diannewrites wrote a gorgeous #PictureBook that tells the story of all four seasons w/o ever using a single verb。 And Felicity Sala's art & added story are lovely。 @simonschuster #AmReading #rhyming #KidLit #seasons No idea how @diannewrites wrote a gorgeous #PictureBook that tells the story of all four seasons w/o ever using a single verb。 And Felicity Sala's art & added story are lovely。 @simonschuster #AmReading #rhyming #KidLit #seasons 。。。more

With sparse text and peaceful illustrations, our author brings us the seasons and relates seasons to colors。I could use a section in storytime。The last few pages brings winter into spring。 :)

This book has gorgeous illustrations。 I think that this would be a great book to introduce kids to poetry since it is written in verse and to teach them about colors and seasons!

A child experiences all the seasons with a focus on colors。

Amanda

Lovely poetry book on seasons—imagistic and simple yet still complex。 Closest to good poetry I’ve read in a picture book yet。 The illustrations create an additional narrative about cycle of life with the seasons, and their colors are outstanding。 Lovely representation in this book too。

Barbara

Enjoy a journey into the countryside and explore colors through poetry and art in the book Green on Green by Dianne White and Felicia Sala。 Vibrant colors and poetic text explore the colors of seasons through the year。 For ages 3 - 9。

What a beautiful book! Loved it!

Jaime

Gorgeous illustrations。 Beautiful prose。 This is a great book for discussing seasons。

Although the illustrations are beautiful, I'm not a fan of the "story。" It reads like poetry, and I don't care for poetry。 My children thought it was boring too; aren't picture books supposed to be written for children to enjoy? So many picture books published recently seem to be written for adults and not children。 Although the illustrations are beautiful, I'm not a fan of the "story。" It reads like poetry, and I don't care for poetry。 My children thought it was boring too; aren't picture books supposed to be written for children to enjoy? This really is lovely and I can see why both the illustrations and language make it a nice choice for families (especially with siblings on the way)。

Beautiful illustrations。 Potential for a small child to learn to read this book with the sparse wording mostly consisting of colors。

Rachel

Such a lovely poem that captures the seasons and change through colors。 The pictures have such rich color and have their own story of change。

I have read a lot of superstar children's books lately but this one made me cry。 It's rhyming, beautiful poem that is it's text is right up my alley ; alluding to the moods, activities and sights of all the seasons and tying them into colors。 This book is a FULL SENSORY experience with sweeping beautiful illustrations with diverse characters, landscapes, closeups, perfect composition and texture。 The words of Dianne White paired with these pieces by Felicita Sala are a Yellow on Green, perfect c I have read a lot of superstar children's books lately but this one made me cry。 It's rhyming, beautiful poem that is it's text is right up my alley ; alluding to the moods, activities and sights of all the seasons and tying them into colors。 This book is a FULL SENSORY experience with sweeping beautiful illustrations with diverse characters, landscapes, closeups, perfect composition and texture。 The words of Dianne White paired with these pieces by Felicita Sala are a Yellow on Green, perfect combination。 Rarely recently do I feel like buying a book since I am actually trying to give away a lot of books I've acquired over the years but I wanted to buy this book, I will at least re-read it before returning it to the library I work at。 Pure poetry, I could hum this like a song and it would put me straight to sleep dreaming about these illustrations。 。。。more

The five comes from some amazing illustrations。 The text rhymes and is poetic。 The rhyming does not take away from the theme, but adds to the lightness of it。 A book to experience on your own level。 Be comfortable when reading。 Great for all ages。

Travel through the year and experience all the colors of each season on these pages。 Poetic rhymes describe the joy of each season and how each season still has a connection to the color green。Starting with Spring and all the joys including the flowers, the bees, the birds, and the rain children can see all the things to celebrate each and every season。 Summer is full of beaches and picnics and reading books in the sun。 Fall focuses on the foods and scents of the season including cinnamon, pumpk Travel through the year and experience all the colors of each season on these pages。 Poetic rhymes describe the joy of each season and how each season still has a connection to the color green。Starting with Spring and all the joys including the flowers, the bees, the birds, and the rain children can see all the things to celebrate each and every season。 Summer is full of beaches and picnics and reading books in the sun。 Fall focuses on the foods and scents of the season including cinnamon, pumpkin, and corn。 Winter reminds us of the cold, but also the sparkle and the peaceful evenings。 Then we are back to Spring。These illustrations are gorgeous and the words as you read them are calming and joyful。 The family in this story is especially excited for Spring to arrive as there will also be a new special arrival。 Children can start to notice the changes in the mom starting in Summer。I just think this is a beautiful story to teach the seasons, the colors, and of course, as a way to get a child excited about a new sibling arriving in the family。 The illustrations in the book are gorgeous enough to want to frame and hang on your wall。 。。。more
